As a start for providing our SAM consultancy services we use the SAM Optimization model from Microsoft to determine an organization's SAM maturity ranging from "Basic SAM", where the organization has little control over which IT assets are being used and policies, procedures, resources and tools are lacking to "Dynamic SAM" where there is near real-time alignment with changing business needs.

To mature in the model objectives are defined and a SAM improvement plan is defined and executed upon.
